The Russians were the first in space
The sputnik won that game
And they had the first man up
Gagarin was his name
The U.S.A. were slow at first
But they would get there soon
They might not be the first in space
But they went to the moon
The Irish thought this shouldn’t be
Just a two horse race
And so they had their own ideas
To put a man in space
“The moon” they said, “That race is won”
“We’ll put our man upon the sun”
But others said “It’s far too hot”
“Not for us” they said “It’s not”
“In the daytime you are right”
“That’s why we plan to go at night”
