The Hand in the Water

Do you think that I could be missed
By friends and family?
For what would be left, if they were bereft
But a space where I used to be?
No, I know, how I would be missed
As if I never had been
And there will be none, who’ll notice I’ve gone
The one that never was seen
A picture played on a screen
A shade now hidden in mist
Or like a forgotten dream
That was seen, but didn’t exist

How much then will I be missed?
Will anyone notice I’ve gone?
Will they look around when I can’t be found
Will they stop or will they move on?
Immerse your hand to the wrist
In water soft and clean
And perform this test. If you do your best
I am sure you will see what I mean
Pull it out and what’s to be seen?
The hole shews how I’ll be missed
As if I never had been
Yes, what hole? It does not exist!
