Observations

The pressure comes from those around
The acid note of sour sound
When heartless words our love confound
Friends, family all pull us down
And with a dismal pall surround
Someone for whom, love should abound
They cannot feel the hurt purveyed
The thoughtless selfishness conveyed
We’re living in a heartless time
What once was clean, is cased in grime
A bitter hoar–frost coats it all
And holds the warmth of love in thrall
The code of self, of me, of mine
Pervades where once was thee and thine

The moral vacuum in the land
Hurts so much more when near at hand
When those who should, just do not care
Take what they want and do not share
They close their eyes with cold disdain
And only think of their own gain
You can’t complain, for if you do
They tell you that the fault’s in you
No matter what, they say the same
What ever’s wrong then you’re to blame
How many do we see like this
Whose poisoned darts so seldom miss?
Do they not care or don’t they know
What others feel but do not shew?

But stop, stand still, and look around
There’s yet much goodness to be found
For many people, do still care
Don’t count the cost of what they share
Because they know it’s not in vain
Alleviating other’s pain
There still are some who rally round
On seeing someone on the ground
Then we can see love still imparts
A subtle pull on tender hearts
Humanity’s not yet been stilled
Nor every drop of goodness spilled
For everywhere the love still flows
Though nowadays so little shews
