Loneliness

Why is it that I feel?
When I am left alone?
Nobody is missing me
When I am on my own

  Day–dark, dank and dismal hues
Dun colours dimmed to grey
My shadow fades, in sombre shades
Like life draining away

  Loneliness is like a pall
That ties and binds and covers all
And once we’re caught we can’t break free
We’re deaf and dumb and cannot see

If I am here no more
Then was I here before?
If I had been, and wasn’t seen
Then how can I be sure?

When I am on my own
Locked in self–suspension
Turned in space or time
A different dimension

living alone
isolated in time
spatially bereft
socially inert
no co–ordinates…
…non–existence

– – – – – –

  How can others see me
If I’m a figment
Of my own imagination?

– – – – – –

  Space and time
are different dimensions
of non–existence

  Loneliness occurs when
people fail to recognise
our presence
and don’t respond to us
….the answer is
solitude….
